We are excited to announce that WalkerHughes Insurance is proudly partnering with Midwest Food Bank as our agency's ‘Charity of the Quarter’ in Quarter 1 of 2022.
About our Referral Program
At WalkerHughes Insurance, there is no higher compliment than a referral. A referral indicates that we have met the mark for our customers and that they are satisfied with the service provided. We are pleased when our customers trust us enough to recommend us to those closest to them. We know how important friends and family members are, and we promise to treat yours as if they were our own!
For every customer referring friends and family members that complete a no-obligation insurance review us, we will send you a $5 Starbucks e-gift card to treat you to a coffee or a cake pop if that is what you prefer! As part of our referral program, we will also make a matching $5 donation to our agency’s ‘Charity of the Quarter’. The purpose of this program is to help organizations close to the hearts of our employees while providing our customers the opportunity to not only receive a coffee on us, but to also help a worthy cause by referring their friends and family. In addition, this also gives us the opportunity to promote awareness of these organizations in our communities through our online presence.
Why Midwest Food Bank?
Midwest Food Bank was nominated by WalkerHughes team member Kevin Wheeler. Kevin is a Sales Executive in the Greenwood location of WalkerHughes with a longstanding history of supporting Midwest Food Bank by volunteering and getting other team members involved with him. When WalkerHughes was accepting nominations for the Charity of the Quarter program, Kevin quickly submitted Midwest Food Bank. “I have a big passion for Midwest Food Bank because they touch so many people. It is amazing the number of people that are food insecure in Indiana, but they don’t even qualify for federal assistance. You have families that are starving, and I think the numbers are around 300,000 children. How can you not get excited to help a child? So, it is one of those things that really touched my heart," stated Wheeler.
About Midwest Food Bank
By definition, a food bank is a place where stocks of food, typically basic provisions, and nonperishable items, are supplied free of charge to local food pantries that help distribute the food to people in need. The WalkerHughes marketing team visited Midwest Food Bank’s facilities, and after one walkthrough it is very apparent that Midwest Food Bank is no ordinary food bank. As a faith-based organization, it is the mission of Midwest Food Bank to share the love of Christ by alleviating hunger and malnutrition locally and throughout the world and providing disaster relief, all without discrimination.
Midwest Food Bank was founded in 2003 on the Kieser farm in rural Bloomington, IL. The organization has since expanded to twelve locations, including Indiana. Midwest Food Bank fights hunger both locally and globally and began supporting disaster relief in 2005 with Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Midwest Food Bank of Indiana currently serves three hundred agencies that help to feed people in seventy-two counties throughout the state. Over 100,000 cases of food are distributed each month at the Indiana location. In total, they distributed $52 million in relief in 2020.
Volunteers are the success of Midwest Food Bank’s mission. We have learned that we are able to accomplish a lot virtually, but we cannot feed people virtually. Midwest Food Bank needs the hands and feet of helping hearts to help them distribute food assistance in our community. Their volunteers and group participation from sports teams and business groups is down since the pandemic, if you are interested in getting involved and able to help, they are actively seeking volunteers and would be appreciative of any assistance.
