The WalkerHughes team is a tight knit group! We work hard to create a culture that our employees are proud to be a part of and a work environment that they enjoy coming to each day. We consider our entire organization to be one work family. With multiple locations across the state of Indiana, each local office is unique. Our Greenwood staff chooses a song and often starts their Friday mornings with lobby dance parties in front of their entrance camera and the Indianapolis team has had a blast with all the mischief their purple Elf on the Shelf has gotten into this holiday season.
Employee engagement is a huge priority at WalkerHughes. We have an Employee Engagement Committee, named ‘Putting People First.’ That group is comprised of representatives from a variety of different offices, departments, and positions within WalkerHughes. They come together to provide employee feedback as we continue to grow with the goal of improving overall engagement.
At WalkerHughes, we share information across the agency footprint in a variety of ways. One of which is through the monthly publication of our internal newsletter, The Pulse. The Pulse highlights individual and team accomplishments over the last month and shares updates as to what is occurring at the local office level. We have been known to have a little fun with photoshop in these newsletters and enjoy sharing a laugh with our team from time to time to keep everyone connected.
To share kudos and give thanks to our hardworking peers, WalkerHughes introduced a ‘Cheers for Peers’ program. Throughout each month, when team members go above and beyond to help one another out or display a random act of kindness, their peers can submit the details for recognition. Within the first six months of launching the program, we are proud to have awarded three hundred ‘Cheers for Peers’ certificates.
Many of our supervisors at WalkerHughes host bi-weekly team meetings with the intent of sharing information but also creating opportunities for their team members in different offices to interact and get to know each other better. When ideas and resources in those meetings are discussed, it helps further the success of the entire team and the organization itself.
Our local offices love celebrating the milestones of their team members at work. Birthdays and retirements quickly come to mind, but we have also had an office host a ‘Groom’s Shower’ and even a shower for a new Grandma to be before. The list goes on and we enjoy supporting one another and cheering each other on!
It is not uncommon for our local offices to have social events, whether it is volunteer based in the community or a team dinner outside of work. We even had several virtual office events, such as game nights and happy hours, take place when we could not safely gather in person due to COVID-19.
With multiple locations, we value the opportunity to get the entire WalkerHughes team together. We typically host two large events a year to gather the whole team, our summer event and holiday party. Our team looks forward to those occasions and provides feedback throughout the year via survey and through the ‘Putting People First’ committee on what they would like these events to entail. We typically rotate these events between Indianapolis and Fort Wayne each year. We have attended a baseball game, visited the zoo, had a casino-themed event, and an improv comedy show; we work hard to come up with fun and exciting ideas each year that our team members look forward to attending!
WalkerHughes is passionate about the communities in which our employees and customers live, work, and play. Each office has a dedicated marketing budget for sponsorship opportunities that are important to their team and in their community. Whether it is supporting the local school corporation or a community fair or festival, our local offices typically have longstanding histories of supporting these special events that we enjoy continuing.
We partner with a different charity each quarter as part of our Customer Referral Program. For each referral generated that quarter, we send the referring customer a Starbucks gift card and make a matching donation to our Charity of the Quarter. Organizations are nominated quarterly by WalkerHughes team members, and we love giving back to our community through the organizations that are near and dear to the hearts of our team!
